Operation NightCAP nets eight
Posted 5/15/03

If you happened to be traveling in the Mille Lacs Lake area on Saturday night you couldn¹t go very far without seeing red and blue flashing lights. Law enforcement officers from the Isle Police Department; Aitkin, Crow Wing and Mille Lacs County Sheriff¹s Offices; and the Minnesota State Patrol joined forces to remove impaired drivers in the Mille Lacs Lake area during a night-time concentrated alcohol patrol (NightCAP) saturation Saturday evening.
The operation, which ran from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., resulted in eight arrests for impaired driving. The 10 officers working the operation stopped 150 vehicles and issued 37 citations. A total of 182 warnings were also issued for various traffic violations.
State Patrol Lt. Amy Stanfield, who coordinated the details, said the numbers reflect the aggressive enforcement put forth by all the officers working the NightCAP saturation. ³With the number of impaired and dangerous drivers removed from the roadways Saturday evening, we may well have averted another needless and senseless tragedy,² Stanfield said. NightCAP is part of the Safe and Sober traffic safety program administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
