Onamia student stabbed by another student with fork By DAWN SLADE School administrators at Onamia High School were dealing with an unusual situation on Wednesday, Feb. 19. A 17-year-old female student stabbed another female student three times in the upper chest area with a fork. According to the criminal complaint, the two teens had been in an argument, which involved throwing wire at each other, during the first hour of school that morning. The suspect then pulled a chair out from under the 16-year-old victim and proceeded to kick her in the stomach. The two were separated and put into different rooms. However, the suspect told authorities she searched for a sharp object to hurt the other girl, found a metal fork in the sink and walked into the room where the other girl was and proceeded to stab her in the neck and chest area. The teen admitted to Mille Lacs County Deputy Kent Larson that she knew her actions could result in death. The suspect also told authorities that she kept telling the victim that she was going to kill her. A staff member, not identified in the public complaint, told authorities that she tried to remove the suspect student from the room, but she broke away twice and beat or kicked at the victim, until the principal arrived and was able to control the girl. The teenager is being charged in Mille Lacs County District Court with felony attempted murder in the second degree, felony assault in the second degree (dangerous weapon) and felony terrorist threats. If sheís charged as an adult, she could be sentenced up to 86 months in prison. An omnibus hearing is scheduled for Friday, March 7 in Mille Lacs County District Court. The attorneyís office is seeking to charge the 17-year-old (who will be 18 in September) as an adult. "I have concerns that if she stays in the juvenile system and doesnít end up getting a lot of time...I would hate for her to go finish the job," said Mille Lacs County Attorney Jan Kolb. The suspect is being held in a secured juvenile detention facility in Brainerd. The victim was treated and released from Onamia Hospital.
