Howard Lang
He was born Feb. 11, 1911, in Hartford, S.D. to William and Nettie Lang. At five years old, he moved with his parents to Milaca, where he attended school. Then Howard moved to Chicago, where he worked until he entered the U.S. Army. He served during World War II in the South Pacific campaign. Howard earned the Combat Infantrymanís Badge and was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry during his tour. Upon return, Howard moved to Missoula, where he lived until his death. He worked for several logging companies in and around Missoula. Howard was an accomplished carpenter and built a few houses in his spare time. He enjoyed buying, fixing and selling antiques and going to auctions. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and longtime member of the Missoula Trap and Skeet Club. In later years he enjoyed time spent in his garden and tending his fruit trees. Howard is survived by one brother, Floyd (Mariam) of Grantsburg, Wis.; and two sisters, Lois (Gene) Olness of Milaca, and Joyce (Wayne) Greene of Shawnee Mission, Kan. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Pearl, Ruth and Joan; six brothers, Kenneth, Donald, Harold, Raymond, Douglas and Everett; and both parents.
