Milaca speech team takes second overall at invitational
Two team members take first place in events

Milaca High Schoolís speech team placed second at the annual Milaca Invitational on Saturday, March 15 at the high school.

Forty-three speakers entered the competition for Milaca and 13 made the finals.

The following students placed in the invitational: Nathan Harris (12th grade), sixth in discussion; Samantha Girard (10th), sixth in drama; Kate Fogel (10th), fifth in discussion; Jessica Roelofs (10th) and Pearl Moede (10th), fifth in drama duo; Erik Johnson (11th), fifth in great speeches; Mitchell Billings (10th), fifth in poetry; Jenny Secord (10th) and Simon Kittok (11th), fourth in drama duo; Jamie Palmquist (11th), fourth in extemporaneous speaking; Angie Schummer (11th), second in extemporaneous reading; Brooke Whittemore (10th), second in extemporaneous speaking; Mike Minks (12th), second in informative speaking.

Milaca had two champions at the invitational. Nikki Timmer (11th) took first place in extemporaneous speaking and Leah Karels (10th) took first place in poetry.

Schools that participated in the invitational included Cambridge-Isanti, St. Anthony Village, Glencoe Silver Lake, Pine City, Mora, Atwater-Grove City-Cosmos, Sartell, Rockford, Braham, Rush City, Sauk Rapids, Onamia and Foley.
