Oscar B. Nelson

Funeral services for Oscar B. Nelson, 89, of Milaca, will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with the Rev. Janeva Stromberg officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church.

Military honors will be provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post 178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post 10794. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca.

Oscar died Sunday, March 16, at the Fairview Northland Regional Hospital in Princeton.

Oscar was born Oct. 15, 1913 to Martin and Gunvor (Ulleberg) Nelson on the home farm in Milo Township. He attended District 32 grade school and Milaca High School. He attended Dunwoody Institute where he studied machine shop and auto mechanics. Oscar then worked at Tobin Arp Manufacturing in Minneapolis for several years. He married Charlotte Wilhelm on June 21, 1941 at Our Saviorís Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Oscar enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and was a Staff Sergeant in the 782nd Airborne Ordinance Company, 82nd Airborne Division. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and took part in the occupation of Berlin after the war. He was honorably discharged in January 1946 and returned to work at Tobin Arp Manufacturing. After a few years he started working at Honeywell as a machinist. In 1952, Oscar and Charlotte bought his home farm when his parents retired. He continued to work on the farm until his death. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca.

Oscar is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte; brothers, Rudolph and wife Mildred of Marion, Iowa and Torlief of Mesa, Ariz.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
