Neil Anderson

Funeral services for Neil Winston Anderson, 69, were held Wednesday, March 19, at the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.

Burial was at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hallock, Minn. Music was provided by Anne Carlson and Mark Oleen. Pallbearers included Gerald Schwindt, Mark Shipman, John Day, Ray Polfuss and Greg Johnson. Military honors were provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post 178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post 10794.

Mr. Anderson died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at the Milaca Elim Home.

He was born Feb. 11, 1934 to Esther V. (Martinson) and Elmer B. Anderson in Hallock. He attended school in Hallock and started working for the telephone company while in high school. He graduated from high school in 1952. He entered the U.S. Army in 1956 and was stationed in Italy, where he was a radio mechanic and took courses in radio repair. He was honorably discharged in 1958 and returned to Hallock and continued his job with the telephone company. He later moved to Wheaton, Minn., where he continued to work for the telephone company and became a member of the American Legion. He moved to Milaca and worked for the telephone company until his retirement in 1993 after 45 years of service. He married Sharon (Olson Day) on Oct. 20, 1979.

After his retirement, he enjoyed coffee in the morning with "the guys" at Hardees and playing cards at the Legion. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and a very active lifetime member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association Central Chapter. The Deer Hunters Association awarded him with a special award in 2001. Over his lifetime, he loved to hunt and fish. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his greatest joys.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Milaca; son, Shane Anderson of Cambridge; step-daughters, Johnna (Day) and husband Gerald Schwindt and Kathy (Day) and husband Mark Shipman, both of Milaca; grandchildren, Lucy Muller, Hannah Schwindt, Tyler Kuether, Zachary Kuether and Jordan Shipman, all of Milaca; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Duane Anderson; and his dog, Speck.
