She grew up on a farm they homesteaded in 1898 and attended elementary schools in the area before moving to St. Cloud to attend St. Cloud Technical High School. They lived in south Minneapolis for about a year, then returned to the Milaca area. The couple had five children. During the first years, Delia and Ray attended the Estes Brook Free Church and then attended The Milaca Evangelical Free Church since 1943. Deliaís life was characterized by a quiet, gentle and caring spirit. She was a farm wife who enjoyed gardening and indoor plants, sewing and handcraft projects and baking. She also loved music and in her youth was in a string band. She made a quilt for each of her 13 grandchildren.
