Sadie died Feb. 28, 2003 at the Elim Nursing Home in Milaca.

She was born Jan. 4, 1912 to Otto Phillip and Christine May (Lind) Goebel in Sandstone Township, Minn. The youngest of six children, she grew up on the family farm. Sadie was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church in Sandstone. Sadie loved the outdoors, the farm animals and helping with chores and field work. Sadie also loved music; she played the organ, harmonica, and her keyboard "by ear," and she was a talented whistler. She met Carl "Eino" Hellman at a barn dance. They were married Sept. 20, 1936 in the Sandstone Congregational Church. Einoís employment with the Spencer-Kellogg Corp. took them to the metro area where they were employed as caretakers for rental cabins at Lake Johanna. In 1946 they purchased the Hellman family farm near Finlayson, becoming full-time farmers. Her "green thumb" was apparent in beautiful house plants and a garden which produced a winterís supply of home-canned vegetables. She enjoyed visiting with neighbors, attending her childrenís school, church and 4-H functions, family gatherings and fishing. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Finlayson. Eino preceded her in death in February 1968. Oct. 5, 1991, she became a resident of the Elim Nursing Home, Milaca.

Sadie is survived by daughter, Gloria (Mel) Oien of Milaca; son, Floyd (MaryAnn) Hellman of Finlayson; four grandchildren, Deanne (Charles) Ballentine of Glasco, Kan., David (Diana) Oien of Pine River, Minn., Tim (Kristin) Oien of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Gail (David) Totzke of Foreston; eight great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jennifer, Seth, Justin, Nicholas, Courtney, Breanna and Benjamin; brother, Forest Goebel, Tacoma, Wash; sisters-in-law, Gladys Goebel of Sandstone, Bertha (Walter) Koski of Esko, Edna Leinonen of Howard Lake, and Ebba Bergin of Minneapolis; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eino; two sisters; two brothers; 4 1/2 year old great-grandson, J. Michael Ballentine; seven sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and life-long friend, Bernice Voit.
