Doris Bergeron
Arrangements are with the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. Doris died Friday, March 7, 2003 at the Foley Nursing Center. She was born Jan. 30, 1921 to Elmer and Mabel (Berge) Stolson in Fergus Falls, Minn. Doris grew up and attended school near Fergus Falls and as a girl moved with her family to California to find work. While in California she met Gilbert Holton and they were married in 1939 in Redding, Calif. Gilbert entered the service after Pearl Harbor and Doris stayed in California for a while before moving to Minneapolis with her parents and son, Jim. Doris then moved to Princeton with her parents and Jim, and a couple of years later to a farm near Long Siding where they lived for about 10 years. While living on the farm, she worked at the Princeton Union newspaper. Gilbert and Doris divorced in the early 1950s and she moved to Princeton in 1957. She married Richard Bergeron in 1958. They continued to live in Princeton and Doris worked at the Princeton Co-op. After Richard preceded her in death, Doris moved to Minneapolis in the mid-1980s and worked for the Veterans Administration. In 1990 she moved to Milaca to live with her daughter, Patricia and husband John Day. She enjoyed gardening, painting and walking in the woods. Doris was also an avid reader and enjoyed music. Doris is survived by her children, James Holton of Edina, Patricia (John) Day of Milaca, Richard (Anne) Holton of Minneapolis, John Bergeron of Minneapolis, Brian Bergeron of Brooklyn Park and Joy Bergeron and partner Marvin Taylor of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Keith (Mary) Holton of New Milford, Conn., Janet (Brian) Tivy of Vancouver, B.C., Kurt Holton of Vancouver, B.C., Christine (Mark) Jacobson of Milaca, John (Dolly) Holton of Minneapolis, Melanie Holton of Minneapolis, Johnna (Gerald) Schwindt of Milaca and Kathy (Mark) Shipman of Milaca; great-grandchildren, James and Lindsey Holton, Alex, Peter and Jake Tivy, Victoria and Amanda Holton, Sam Jacobson, Lucy and Hannah Schwindt, Tyler Kuether and Zack and Jordan Shipman; and many others relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Bergeron; sister, Viola Stolson; brother, Ernest Stolson; and lifelong friends, Vera Hoeft and Caroline Greenwood, both of Princeton.
