County asks for DNA from Bouman
Posted 3/13/03

Joe Friedberg, attorney for Minnesota Vikings player Todd Bouman, informed the media last week that a sample of his clientís DNA was requested by the Mille Lacs County Sheriffís Office in connection with two women who were raped during the Arctic Blast event held near Mille Lacs Lake on Feb. 2.

During the course of the investigation, DNA has been requested of witnesses and possible suspects, but the sheriffís office has not disclosed who those people are.

"Weíll be real cautious about that," Mille Lacs County Sheriff Brent Lindgren said.

However, since Friedberg has opened the door, the media has jumped on it.

Bouman has yet to agree to a sample, which was requested by the sheriffís office the week of Feb. 24.

Lindgren said, "If you know that providing a DNA sample would clear you as a suspect, I donít know why you wouldnít do it."

If Bouman doesnít consent the county will have to take the long route by getting a court- ordered search warrant.

Lindgren also pointed out that Bouman is not a suspect at this time, in fact, the county has not listed anyone as a suspect yet.
