Bauerly Companies wins award
Posted 3/13/03

The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) has announced that Bauerly Companies of Sauk Rapids, Minn. has won a 2002 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement. The company received its award at a special ceremony in January at the Association's 48th Annual Convention in San Diego, Calif.

The Quality in Construction Awards recognize Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavements of excellence. "NAPA selects the recipients of its paving awards using a known set of standards that have been shown to give a good result," commented David B. Carlson, Chairman of the NAPA Board of Directors. "This award demonstrates the high quality of work that the HMA industry is achieving."

The award-winning project was the milling and overlay of 18 miles of Highway 71, which serves everything from heavy commercial trucks to Amish horse-drawn buggies. To handle these diverse requirements, Bauerly Companies had to use varied HMA mixes, which required careful scheduling. Using a pilot car to keep workers and motorists safe, the company milled and paved each section of road in a day. The resulting pavement earned a bonus for ride quality and density.
