Posted 6/5/03

Sophomore Lacey Hoeck represented Milaca at the Class A State Girls Golf Tournament which was scheduled Wednesday and today (Thursday) at the Izatys Golf Courses near Onamia.

The girls tournament was scheduled on The Sanctuary course while the Class A State Boys Tournament was scheduled on the Black Brook course at Izatys.

Hoeck qualified for the state meet by shooting an 88 and placing sixth overall at the Region 5A Tournament Tuesday, May 27, at Rich Springs Golf Course near Cold Spring.

The top five individuals at the region tournament, excluding golfers who advance with the region team champion, advance to the state meet. Senior Becky Brisendine of New London-Spicer, the Region 5A team champion, placed fourth with an 86, which moved Hoeck into the top five.

Junior Kelli Berns of Annandale won 5A medalist honors with a three-over-par 75 while sophomore Lindsey Wellenstein of Albany placed second at 83 and senior Logan Gerleman of Rockford was third at 84. Ninth grader Brianna Radtke of Lester Prairie was fifth at 87.

Milaca sophomore Erin Rice also qualified for the 5A meet and shot a 90.

³Lacey and Erin both played very well,² said Milaca Coach Andrea Rusk. ³Lacey has a good chance to do well at the state tournament.²

Earlier this season, Milaca won its fourth straight Rum River Conference championship.

New London-Spicer won the 5A team title with a score of 366. Annandale also finished at 366 but NL-S won the title because its No. 5 golfer had a better score than the fifth Annandale golfer.

Albany placed third at 371 and Lester Prairie was fourth at 392.

New London-Spicer also won the boys 5A title, finishing with a score of 313. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City was second at 317, Albany was third at 320 and Becker was fourth at 329.
