Ellsworth "Buck" Veal

Funeral services for Ellsworth "Buck" Veal, 85, of Princeton, are 11 a.m. today (Thursday, July 24) at the Williams-Hanson-Kaun Funeral Home in Princeton. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Oak Knoll Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gary Davlin, Michael Veal, Vance Blencoe, Daryle Blencoe, Ricky Veal, Rick Veal, Anthony Davlin and Kenneth Jakowski.

Buck died July 20, 2003 at his home in Princeton.

He was born Dec. 29, 1917 in Brainerd, Minn. to Riley and Mary (Thomas) Veal. He attended school in Brainerd and Princeton. Buck was childhood friends with his wife Rosella Stanley. The couple married March 5, 1949 in Minneapolis. Buck was a Golden Glove boxer and went by the name of "Smiling Buck." He worked for United Van and Bus Service for 30 years and retired in 1979. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 544. Buck enjoyed fishing, cards and was an avid football fan.

Survivors include his five children, Richard Veal of St. Francis, William Veal of Princeton, Robert Veal of Princeton, Bernita Loken and husband Ray of Melrose, Roxanne Davlin of Lake City; step-children, Roy Veal and wife Marie of Buffalo and Betty Compton of Minneapolis; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mina Edmonds of Princeton, Annie Saxton of Minneapolis and Dorothy Martin of Isanti; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosella; son, Wayne; two grandchildren, Rosella and William Veal; and his great-grandson, Trevor Dunn.
