Forage Day set Jan. 14 in Mora The replacement of RFV with Relative Feed Quality (RFQ); certification of noxious weed free forages and mulches; potential sources, uses, and value of industrial by-products in forage production, and machinery impacts on forage quality and dry down are the topics to be covered at the 21st annual East Central Forage Day. The EC forage day will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14th from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. (registration will begin at noon) in Mora at the Kanabec County public service building located approximately three fourths of a mile east of Highway 65 on Hwy 23. The program will begin with "Relative Feed Quality (RFQ) replacing RFV as a Measure of Feed Quality," by University of Minnesota Extension Service Forage Agronomist, Paul Peterson. The second topic of the program will be covered by Ben Lang, Manager of Field Services for the Minnesota Crop Improvement Association (MCIA). He will explain the "Certification of Noxious Weed Free Forages and Mulches." He will also discuss the some of the potential markets and uses of these forage products once certification occurs. The final topics of the day will be "Sources, Uses, and Value of Industrial By-products (lime/wood ash) in Forage Production," and "Machinery Impacts on Forage Quality and Dry Down" by University of Minnesota Extension Service Regional Extension Educator, Troy Salzer. Following the program there will be a short meeting of the East Central Forage and Grassland Council (ECFGC) for board member elections and a discussion on future activities such as the Alfalfa Scissors-Cut program. The program is free for Minnesota Forage and Grassland Council Members, and $5 for nonmembers. The Forage Day is sponsored by the East Central Forage and Grassland Council in cooperation with the University of Minnesota Extension Service.
