Hartley Junnila

Funeral services for Hartley Edmund Junnila, 77, of Milaca were held Monday, Dec. 23, at the St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Milaca with the Rev. Vernon Dorn officiating.

Pallbearers were Michael and Kelly Doty, Jeff Withington, William, Thomas, John and Roger Junnila, and Renee Riviere. Music was by Jane Marquardsen and Ray and Janola Nelson. The honor guard was by the Hansen Hayes American Legion Post 178. A private burial will take place later at the Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia, Minn.

Arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.

Mr. Junnila died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 from complications of an aortic aneurysm.

He was born in 1925 in Virginia, Minn., graduated from high school and attended Virginia Junior College. He served in World War II in the Army of Occupation in Tokyo, Japan. He married Signe Autio Sept. 28, 1947. Harley was a business owner of Harbenís Department Store in Grand Rapids, Minn., for 30 years. He also was past president of the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and First Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was currently a member of St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Milaca.

He was an avid outdoorsmen who enjoyed spending time with family. He appreciated literature, music and travel.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Signe; sons, John (Barb) of Billings, Mont., and Bill (Mary) of Lutsen, Minn.; daughters, Linda Riviere of Minneapolis, Brenda (Mike) Doty of Milaca, and Wanda (Jeff) Withington of Crystal, Minn.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bernhardt; and sister, Helen.
