Milaca seeking consistency

"Weíve had a pattern where we just canít seem to make that big basket when we need it," said Milaca Girls Basketball Coach Jamie Taylor Monday as he looked back at the Wolvesí two setbacks last week. "We need to start making those baskets.

"Weíre playing well at times but weíre not consistent enough, especially when the games get down to crunch time."

Milaca lost to Braham 53-44 in a non-conference game Monday, Jan. 13, at Milaca before losing at Princeton 51-44 Thursday, Jan. 16, in a RRC game.

The losses dropped the Wolves to a 1-12 overall mark and 1-7 conference record.

Milaca, which was scheduled to travel to Foley Tuesday night, hosts Big Lake Friday night at 7:30. The Wolves lost at Big Lake 40-33 Dec. 5.

"Itís a game we can win," said Taylor.

Milaca hosts Onamia Tuesday night (Jan. 28) in a non-conference game at 7:30.

Braham 53, Milaca 44

Milaca led 20-17 at halftime before Braham moved in front 36-35 heading into the fourth quarter. The Bombers outscored the Wolves 17-9 over the final eight minutes.

Junior center Lyz Tesch scored 12 points and had 14 rebounds for Milaca while senior guard Katie Helmin had 11 points. Tesch also blocked three shots.

Princeton 51, Milaca 44

The Tigers led 28-20 at halftime before the Wolves cut the margin to 32-28 heading into the fourth quarter.

Tesch led Milaca with 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds while Helmin scored nine points and had five rebounds.

"Lyz and Katie have really played well the past couple of weeks," said Taylor. "Lyz had been a force and Katie has done a good job scoring and taking care of the basketball."

Steph Drews led Princeton with 13 points.

The Wolves shot just 22.7 percent (15-66) from the field while the Tigers shot 36.2 percent (17-47). Milaca had a 36-34 edge in rebounds.
