She grew up and attended country school located nearby on property that had been donated to the school system by her father. After graduating from the eighth grade, she worked as a housekeeper for a family in St. Paul, Minn. She married Lester Nelson on Aug. 31, 1940. The couple first resided in Minneapolis, but shortly after their marriage they moved to Hibbing where their only daughter, Darlene Gay, was born in 1942. In the late 1950s Lesterís employment forced a move to Blaine. Lillian obtained employment in manufacturing. Lester preceded her in death in 1970. In 1991 she moved to Oak Park to be closer to her family. Lillian volunteered regularly to help the elderly and the handicapped. She enjoyed working outside and tending her plants and gardens. Her birdfeeders were a constant pleasure for her. Many hours were spent playing the accordion, a skill she learned as a child. Prior to Lesterís death, the couple participated in numerous dance contests, often bringing home first prize for polka dancing. She is survived by daughter, Darlene Wamhoff; son-in-law Kenneth Wamhoff; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; one brother and four sisters.
