Wolves claim third-straight Rum River title Girls Golf Milacaís girls golf team clinched its third-straight Rum River Conference championship by winning a pair of nine-hole rounds at the Stone Creek Golf Club at Foley Friday. On Monday, the Wolves finished the 2002 season undefeated against RRC foes as they won a RRC West Division meet at the Princeton Golf Club. "Winning the conference title was one of our goals this season and it was great to see the team accomplish that," said Milaca Coach Andrea Rusk. "They were very focused and consistent and thatís what wins titles. "Now, we hope to do well in postseason play." Milaca was scheduled to compete at the Section 5A North Sub-Section Tournament Tuesday at Pebble Creek Golf Club at Becker. The top two teams and top five individuals at the sub-section meet advance to the Section 5A Tournament Tuesday, May 28, at the Rich Springs Golf Course at Cold Spring. On Monday (May 20), Milaca posted a score of 190 at the Princeton Golf Club, edging Foley, which finished second at 191. Ninth grader Erin Rice shot a nine-hole score of 42 to pace the Wolves and earn medalist honors. Senior Alana Reetz had a 46, and sophomore Katie Mickelson and ninth grader Lacey Hoeck both finished at 51. Junior Kelly Doty shot a 52 and ninth grader Amy DeBoer had a 62. Princeton was third at 217 and Sauk Rapids was fourth at 243. Eighth grader Jill Esselmanís 64 paced Milaca to first place in the junior varsity division. On Friday at Foley, Milaca won the first nine-hole round with a 180 total (top four scores count in the team total). Rice led the Wolves with a 42 while Hoeck shot a 45, Reetz had a 46 and Doty had a 47. Mickelson had a 53 and DeBoer shot a 61. Foley placed second in the eight-team meet with a 184 total while Pine City was third at 201 and Chisago Lakes was fourth at 207. Senior Aino Lange of North Branch was medalist with a 41. The Wolves won the second nine-hole round with a score of 179 while Foley was second at 184, Chisago Lakes was third at 193 and Pine City was fourth at 210. Reetz and Hoeck both finished with 43s while Rice had a 45 and Doty shot a 48, DeBoer and Mickelson both shot a 55. On Wednesday, May 15, Milaca won the 15-team Mora Scramble with a score of 158. North Branch placed second at 163 and Foley was third at 167. Milacaís team of Hoeck and Doty placed second with a score of 77 while Reetz and Rice combined for an 81 and DeBoer and Mickelson totaled 103. Lange and Rachel White of North Branch placed first with a score of 65. On Tuesday, May 14, Milaca won a RRC West Division meet at Oak Hill Golf Course near Rice with a score of 195. Foley placed second at 197. Rice and Hoeck both had scores of 46, Reetz shot a 51 and DeBoer had a 52. Mickelson shot a 53 and Doty scored a 58. Rice, Hoeck and Angie Haehn of Princeton shared medalist honors. On Monday, May 13, at the Milaca Golf Club, the Wolves took first place in their own invitational and also claimed the top spot in a RRC West Division meet that was included as part of the invitational. The Wolves won the eight-team invitational with a team score of 374. Foley placed second at 402 and Pine City was third at 424. Rice and Reetz both finished at 92 to tie for second place in the individual standings while Hoeck placed fourth at 94 and Doty was seventh at 96. North Branchís Lange was medalist with an 82. Milaca won the nine-hole West Division meet with a 193 total while Foley was second at 205. Those scores were compiled on the back nine. Reetz was medalist with a 46 while Rice had a 48, Doty shot a 49 and Hoeck scored a 50. Boys Golf Hubers medalist Milaca senior Tom Hubers shot a 78 to take medalist honors at the Milaca Boys Invitational Golf Tournament Thursday, May 16, at the Milaca Golf Club. Mike Kulzer of Sauk Rapids placed second with a 79. Sauk Rapids won the tournament with a 343 total while St. Michael-Albertville placed second at 349, Princeton was third at 350, Milaca placed fourth at 355 and Foley was fifth at 366. Milacaís other scores included an 86 by senior Brooks Bauer, a 92 by sophomore Phil Sam, a 99 by senior Ryan Westling and a 103 by junior Sheldon Miller. A nine-hole Rum River Conference West Division meet was included in the 18-hole invitational, with Milaca claiming first place with a 169 total. Sauk Rapids was second at 171 and Princeton was third at 176. Hubers took medalist honors with a 39. Bauer shot a 41, sophomore Darrell Nelson shot a 44, Westling had a 45, Sam had a 49 and Miller had a 51. On Tuesday, May 14, Milaca placed third in a RRC West Division meet at Oak Hill Golf Club at Rice with a score of 176. Princeton placed first at 169. Bauer led the Wolves with a 41 while Hubers and Nelson each shot a 42, Westling had a 51, junior Eric Bergstrom shot a 54 and eighth grader Nick Wilken shot a 56. Nick Haehn of Princeton was medalist with a 39. Milaca was scheduled to compete at the Section 5A North Sub-Section Tournament Wednesday at Becker.
