Reed takes post as band director

Michael Reed is the new Milaca High School band director.

Reed is from the New Hope area and graduated from Cooper High School in 1997.

He then attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis, graduating in December 2001 with a Bachelor of Music Education.

Reed also student taught a semester in the fall of 2001 at five schools within the Edina Public School system, mainly at Edina High School.

Reed just recently moved to the Milaca area. The main instrument Reed plays is tuba, but he also plays euphonium and enjoys singing.

"Iím excited to move to Milaca and carry on the rich music tradition set forth by my predecessor," Reed said.

Reed plans to continue the marching band and other band programs. He hopes to expand the jazz program and wants to introduce more music technology into the program, in which he would incorporate the Smart Music Studio (an accompaniment program) and Finale (a composing program).

"I look forward to working with the young musicians in Milaca and their parents," Reed added.
