Chaffee elected president of state bakers association

Robert "Bob" Chaffee of Foreston was recently elected president of the Minnesota Bakers Association.

Chaffee has been a member of the association since 1998 and has been on the board of directors for the past three years serving as treasurer and vice president.

A Certified Master Baker, Chaffee is the commercial baking instructor at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.

He teaches 14 inmates at the correctional facility, processing over 1,000 pounds of baked goods daily, feeding the 830 inmates.

Chaffee has trained at the French Baking School in Aurillac, France and has volunteered in developing countries working with bakers. He has also traveled to Romania, Bulgaria and Russia as a bakery consultant.

Previously, Chaffee taught commercial baking at Duluth Technical College and at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. While at Indian Hills, he made Christmas tree ornaments for the White House in 1995.

Chaffee is also a Food Operations Sergeant in the Minnesota National Guard.
