Mille Lacs County Fair starts Aug. 8

Thereís lots to see and hear at the 111th annual Mille Lacs County Fair in Princeton August 8-11.

The SkidSteer Rodeo, sponsored by Crawfordís Equipment, is a new event this year. Up to 30 people will be able to try out the obstacle course driving a SkidSteer. There is no charge for adults to enter this event, which will be held Sunday, Aug. 11 at 4 p.m. at the grandstand.

Another new feature to the fair this year is the newly-built 4-H livestock building and pavilion. The 136-foot by 110-foot building will be ready for the dairy animals, sheep and goats.

In celebration of the groupís 100th anniversary, the 4-H organization is looking for exhibits from former 4-H members, including old photographs and projects created in 4-H. Contact Tana Haugen-Brown at the U of M Extension Office at 320-983-8317.

Several bands will be performing throughout the four-day celebration, including The Band Wagon, The Maras Sisters and Jacob, Eagle River and Country Pride.

The Kidís Pedal Tractor Pull is Thursday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. Children ages 4-11 must register before 2 p.m. to participate.

There are still openings for the talent contest on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. at the stage.

Grandstand events include a tractor pull on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m., stock car races begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, and the demolition derby takes place on Saturday,
