Evelyn Larson

Funeral services for Evelyn Arlene Larson, 89, were held Saturday, July 27, at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca with the Rev. Jon Olson officiating.

Burial followed at the Borgholm Cemetery near Bock. Music was provided by Dale Hunter and Ann Johnson.

Arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.

Evelyn died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Fairview Northland Regional Hospital in Princeton.

She was born Feb. 23, 1913 to Edward and Alma Thomas in Sioux City, Iowa. She moved with her family to Duluth, Minn., where she grew up and attended school. After high school, she took classes to receive her teaching degree. She moved to Milaca where she taught at many country schools. While living in Milaca, she met Albert Larson and they were married in 1944. They made their home on a farm east of Milaca. In 1962, Evelyn stopped teaching to stay at home. Evelyn and Albert took in many foster children whom they raised and loved like their own children. In 1979, they sold the farm and moved to a house on County Road 4. Albert preceded her in death in 1983 and Evelyn stayed in the house for a few years until she moved to an apartment in Milaca. In 1997, she moved to the Centennial Manor in Milaca and in October of 2001, she moved to the Milaca Elim Home.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crossword puzzles and socializing with friends.

She is survived by her children, David and wife Karen Larson of Andover, Minn., Faye Nelson of St. Paul, and Timothy Larson of St. Clairsville, Ohio; grandchildren Karen, William and Christine Nelson; sister, Maxine Broucha of Webster, Wis.; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; two sisters and one brother.
