Louise Van Howten

A memorial service for Louise Van Howten, 78, was held Thursday, Aug. 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca with the Rev. Jon Olson officiating. Music was provided by Ann Johnson and Dale Hunter. Services will also be held in Poland, Ohio and burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Vienna, Ohio.

Arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.

Louise died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002 at Fairview Northland Regional Hospital in Princeton.

She was born Aug. 20, 1923 to Lawrence and Lettie (Ziegler) Sahli in Youngstown, Ohio. She attended and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and as a young woman worked various jobs in the area. Louise married William Van Howten in March of 1947 in Youngstown, Ohio. The couple made their home in Poland, Ohio where they raised their son, Donald.

Louise was active with the Shriners and Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy High Priestess. Louise was active with the lodge activities in food preparation and social events. She moved to Milaca in July of last year to live with her sister, Gerri Williams.

She is survived by son, Donald and wife Corina and one grandson, Talon, all of Sante Fe, N.M.; one sister, Gerri Williams of Milaca; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
