Lawrence Beckman Funeral services for Lawrence "Lawrie" Beckman, 90, were held Thursday, March 28, at the Milaca Evangelical Free Church in Milaca with the Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial followed at the Borgholm Cemetery near Bock. Music was provided by Erma Bergstrom, Chuck Gibson, Elmer Olds, Don Ericson and C. Elmer Nelson. Pallbearers included Andy Beckstrom, Peter Beckstrom, Michael Starck, Shelby Starck, Ann Gossen and Roger Gervasi. Arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. Mr. Beckman died Monday, March 25, 2002 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora. He was born May 20, 1911 to Lars and Karin (Magnuson) Beckman near Bock. He grew up and attended school in Bock. He married Evelyn Larson on June 20, 1942. The couple moved to a farm north of Bock, where they farmed until 1955. While living there, they were active in the Bock Free Church and Lawrie sang in the church quartet. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1955 and Lawrie worked as a mechanic at the dairy plant. In 1988, they moved to Mora and attended the Emanuel Baptist Church in Mora. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn in May of 1997. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and following the Minnesota Twins. Lawrie was also known as a staunch Republican. He is survived by acquired son, Lawrence "Butch" and wife Rose Unger of Yuma, Ariz.; one sister, Eunice "Boots" and husband Herman East of Cottonwood, Ariz.; and also by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; and five sisters, Florence, Phyllis, Esther, Hazel and Emma.
