Runnin in the Ruff Running through the woods listening to the sounds of geese, birds chirping, and maybe even a grouse thumping, while squirrels scurry about. Sound good? Then, Runniní In The Ruff may be the place for you. The ninth annual Runniní In The Ruff 10K and 2K run/walk sponsored by the City of Milaca takes place Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. Each year the event attracts 80 plus runners (and walkers) to Milaca. The race begins at Recreation Park and winds its way over the Rum River, through the woods and back to Rec Park. Milacaís 14-mile hiking trail also hosts a few mountain bike races during the year and cross-country skiing over the winter. The trail is groomed once a week in the winter for six miles of ski trails. It typically takes the winning 10K (6.2 miles) runners approximately 40 minutes to cross the finish line. Awards are given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for each age division (menís and womenís). All participants will receive a long sleeve shirt and refreshments. Pre-registration cost is $15 by May 1. Race-day registration is $18, with an additional $3 for a shirt to be mailed later. Spectators are welcome.
