Vernida Eggen

Funeral services for Vernida Eggen, 94, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca, with the Rev. Gary Fehring officiating.

Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery following the service. Arrangements are by Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.

She died April 20, 2002 at the Elim Nursing Home in Milaca surrounded by family.

Vernida "Vern" Look was born Jan. 11, 1908 at Sullivan Lake, Minn., to Claude and Clemma Belle (Golder) Look.

She attended Sucker Brook School District 88 through eighth grade, moved to Hillman, attended two years of high school and graduated from Onamia High School in June, 1927. Vern was baptized and confirmed July 22, 1928 by Rev. Wachholz at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman. She and Peter Eggen of Milaca were married Oct. 13, 1929 at Cedar Brook Lutheran Church near Aitkin. They farmed in Page Township, Mille Lacs County, until retirement in 1973. Peter died March 4, 1983, and Vern continued to live on the farm until 1997 when she moved to Milaca.

Vern was a great cook and homemaker. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens and feeding the birds on the farm, making braided rugs, quilting, playing cards, working crossword puzzles, collecting books and reading, and will be fondly remembered for her special handmade greeting cards for her familyís birthdays and other occasions.

She was also correspondent of Tibbets Brook News for the Mille Lacs County Times for many years.

She is survived by 12 children, Marjorie (Elden) Humphrey of Oakhurst, Calif., Gene (Carol) of Onamia, Karen DePriest of El Cajon, Calif., Jimmy (Carol) of Milaca, Lorraine (Duane) French of Ogilvie, Neil (Judy) of Milaca, Peter Dale (Pam) of Lake Elmo, Gary (Judy) of Milaca, Philip (Marlene) of Milaca, Virginia (Larry) Braaten of Milaca, Donn (Cheree) of Andover, Joanne (Lloyd) Withers of Blackduck; 38 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Babineau of Milaca; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; son-in-law, Larry DePriest; one grandchild, David Humphrey; one great-grandchild, Corey Davis; special aunt, Ida Look; parents; four brothers and three sisters.
