4-H Project Bowl teams at region, state

The Mille Lacs County 4-H Junior Dairy Bowl Team won the championship in its division at the Regional 4-H Project Bowl Contest in Sibley on March 23 and advanced to state. It placed seventh at the state contest in Buffalo on April 6. Team members included: Shawn Bekius, Kelly Olson, Marshal Ash, Chris Pederson, and Makana Schreur of Milaca. Kristin Reiman of Princeton and Coral Wallace and Tracy DeVries of Milaca coached the team. The Senior Horse Project Bowl Team placed 10th in its regional contest in Long Prairie, the largest regional contest in the state. Team members included: Amberly Hirsch, Tammy Schumacher, Kelly Schumacher, and Jessica Broberg, all of Milaca. Autumn Webeck of Milaca coached the team. The Junior Horse Team took 16th place in its division at the regional contest in Long Prairie. Team members included Jeremy Hirsch, Becky Nelson and Rachel Nelson of Milaca, Olivia Holland and Clara Lundgren of Zimmerman, and Rose Szenay of Princeton. Cindy Lundgren of Zimmerman coached this team. The Junior Poultry Team placed fifth in its division at the regional contest in Long Prairie. Team members included Matthew Moscho and Jacob Moscho of Milaca and Rachel Keimig of Princeton. Kim Lueck Foss and Phil Neubauer coached the team. The Junior Food and Nutrition Team competed only on the state level and took fifth place in its division. Team members included Elliot Humphrey, Blake Humphrey, and Heather Alto of Princeton and Kelvin and Jessica Jones of Zimmerman. 4-H Volunteer Pam Humphrey of Princeton coached the team. Project Bowl is a knowledge bowl contest where team members are quizzed on information about their project area. Team members and coaches put in many hours of practice and studying for these contests. Youth from across the state compete at four regional contests and one state contest on teams in the following project areas: dairy, livestock, dog, poultry, horse, rabbit, goat and foods and nutrition.
