Milaca girls claim second Milacaís girls team notched second place while Milacaís boys finished eighth at the Rum River Conference Indoor Track and Field Meet Saturday at the Foley fieldhouse. Sauk Rapids swept both the girls and boys titles. It was the sixth straight RRC indoor title for Sauk Rapidsí boys team. Sauk Rapids won the girls title with 145 points while Milaca was second with 110. North Branch was third at 82 followed by Pine City with 70 points, Chisago Lakes at 61, Foley at 53, Princeton at 50 and Mora at 46. Milaca claimed first place in five events. ïJunior Jessi Struffert won the 400-meter dash in 1:02.67. Teammate Chrissy Dee, a junior, finished seventh in 1:09.09. Struffert also placed second in the 200 dash in 28.27 seconds while sophomore Amberly Hirsch of Milaca was fourth in 28.91. ïJunior Casey Carlson won the triple jump with a jump of 32-feet, 10-inches. Carlson also claimed second place in the 55-meter dash in 7.84 seconds. Milaca sophomore Amber Manke placed seventh in 8.11. ïSenior Kristine Norberg won the pole vault with a height of 9-0 while Milaca ninth grader Hannah Coffee was second at 8-7. ïThe Wolves 800-meter relay team of Hirsch, Carlson, Manke and sophomore Janelle Packard placed first in 1:55.06. ïMilacaís 1600 relay team of Struffert, Packard, Dee and Hirsch was first in 4:36.21. Milacaís team of Manke, Carlson, eighth grader Ashley Brown and eighth grader Karly Ringham finished second in the 400 relay in 56.17. Milaca ninth grader Sara Hanenburg placed second in the 800 run in 2:43.40 and Hirsch was third in the long jump with a jump of 13-9. ******** Sauk Rapids rolled to the boys title with 190 points while North Branch was second at 156 and Mora was third at 84. Princeton placed fourth at 47, followed by Chisago Lakes at 42, Pine City at 40, Foley at 31 and Milaca with 19 points. Milaca was without standout senior sprinter Craig Kotsmith who was attending a church camp. Milaca senior Anthony Peterson finished fourth in the 3200 run in 11:31.17 and seventh in the 1600 in 5:20.49. Junior Austin Siemers of Milaca was sixth in the 3200 in 12:00.11. Senior Ryan Richter of Milaca was sixth in the 800 run in 2:16.80. Milacaís team of Richter, ninth grader Adam Rodin, ninth grader Axel Totzke and Clinton Swenson finished sixth in 4:01.76. ******** On Monday, April 1, Milacaís girls placed third while the Wolvesí boys finished fourth in a meet at St. Johnís University in Collegeville. Paynesville won the girls division with 146.5 points, followed by Rocori at 118.5 and Milaca at 66. Sauk Centre was fourth with 46 points, followed by Pierz at 41.5, Eden Valley-Watkins-Kimball at 30.5 and St. Johnís Prep and Hinckley-Finlayson, which both scored 29 points. Carlson led Milaca as she won the 55-meter dash in 7.7 and the triple jump with a jump of 37-11.25. She also placed second in the 200 dash in 28.0. Struffert placed third in the 400 dash in 62.5 . Norberg placed second in the pole vault at 8-6 while Coffee was third at 8-0. Hirsch was fourth in the long jump at 14-3.25. Milaca was second in the 1600 relay in 4:31.5. Kotsmith paced Milacaís boys as he won the 200 in 23.7 and the 400 in 51.5. He also placed fourth in the 55 dash in 6.9. Richter placed fifth in the 800 in 2:17.0 while Peterson was sixth in the 3200 in 11:45.4. Totzke placed sixth in the 400 in 57.8 and Milacaís 1600 relay team was sixth in 4:09.44. Milacaís boys and girls were scheduled to compete in a meet at Sauk Rapids today at 4:30. However, that meet was moved to St. Cloud Apollo. Milaca hosts a boys and girls quadrangular Monday at 4:30 p.m.
