Ardis Peters

Funeral services for Ardis Lorraine Peters, 81, were held Wednesday, April 10, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca with the Rev. Jon Olson officiating.

Pallbearers were Adam Murray, Steven, Gary, Dennis and Ron Carlson and Bevan Beck. Music was by Michelle Carlson and Heather Dodd. Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca.

Arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home.

Ardis died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at the Milaca Elim Home.

She was born July 4, 1920 in Stanford Township, Isanti County, Minn., to Hayes and Mathilda Carlson. She attended rural school in Isanti County, and graduated from Cambridge High School and the Teachers Training Department in Mora. Also, she attended summer school at the Duluth university. Ardis taught in rural school in Isanti County for six years.

On Aug. 4, 1944, Ardis married George Peters in Milaca, George then served in the U.S. Army. Ardis was confirmed at the Bradbury Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was active in Luther League and a Sunday School teacher. She also taught Sunday School while she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Mora and in Faith Lutheran Church of Amery, Wis. George and Ardis moved to Milaca in 1963. They joined the Zion Lutheran church and she has been a long time member of the Esther Circle. Ardis has been active in the LCW, served as church librarian, enjoyed helping with church quilting, participated in Bible study and assisted on the prayer chain. She had a music box collection, and witnessed her Christian faith through displaying the music boxes and talks given to local groups.

When George returned from the service the couple lived in Milaca a while but moved to Mora in 1947, where they worked in the Elite Laundry and Cleaners. In 1950 they moved to Amery, Wis., where they owned and operated the Modern Cleaners. In 1963 they returned to Milaca where they purchased the Milaca Cleaners which they operated until 1976. Ardis enjoyed sharing her husbandís hobby of collecting antique cars and they were seen in many parades in their 1928 Model A Ford. In 1956 George and Ardis adopted Candice and were happy to share their lives with her.

Ardis is survived by son-in-law, Thomas Murray; grandsons, Michael, Robert and Brent Canfield and Adam Murray, all of St. Paul; sister, Evelyn Truelson of Minneapolis; brothers, Clifford Carlson and wife Betty of Princeton, Willard Carlson and wife Diane of Minneapolis; plus many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Ardis was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Murnel Benson, Marie Benson, Dorothy Beck, and Victoria Medberg; brother, Virgil Carlson; infant son, Donald; daughter, Candice Murray; and husband, George.
