Albert Godeke Funeral services for Albert "Al" Godeke, 87, were held Saturday, April 6, at the Pease Christian Reformed Church with the Revs. Gerald Vander Hoek and John Bylsma officiating. Music was by Peggy Swenson and Dorothy Brink. Burial was in the Pease Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Alzheimerís Research. Arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. Mr. Godeke died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at the Foley Nursing Center where he has recently resided. He was born Jan. 11, 1915 to Albert and Grada Godeke in Pease. He grew up in the Pease area and attended Christian Riverside School near Pease. He married Grace Ruis Oct. 15, 1938 in Minneapolis. The couple resided in the Milaca area and Al worked for different farmers around Minnesota and 15 years for Abe and Bill Geurkink. Albert started his own business in 1954 as a cattle dealer. In 1982 he sold his farm north of Milaca and retired into Milaca. Albert was a lifetime member of the Pease Christian Reformed Church. Albertís hobbies included hunting, fishing and he loved to putz and fix things. He survived colon cancer in 1961. He is survived by his wife, Grace; daughters, Doryce Kooiman and husband Roger of Aitkin, Cheryl Ellingson and husband Brian of Clear Lake, and Dorene Lord of Palm Beach Garden, Fla; one son, Leon and wife Susan of Arden Hills; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill and wife Lois of Albert Lea, and Bernard and wife Alice of Hollandale, Minn., three sisters, Gladys Roelofs of Hollandale, Freida DeJong of California and Jean Neinord of Hollandale. He was preceded in death by son, Michael; two brothers, Garrit and John; and two sisters, Dena and Lydia.
