Girls win Pierz meet Milacaís girls placed fourth at the Big Lake Invitational Track and Field Meet Friday, April 27. The Wolvesí performance, which included setting one Milaca school record and three Big Lake meet marks, came a week after they captured first place at the Pierz Invitational which was held at Milaca. Milacaís boys placed fifth at Big Lake. They finished in fourth place at the Pierz meet. Milacaís boys and girls were scheduled to take part in the North Branch Invitational Tuesday, May 1. The Wolves girls and boys travel to the Crosby-Ironton Invitational Friday, May 11, at 4 p.m. ******** Big Lake Invitational Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City won the girls title with 146.5 points while Big Lake was second with 142.5 and Sauk Centre placed third at 130. Milaca was fourth at 121.5, followed by Foley at 72.5, Rockford with 50, Annandale with 39.5 and eighth-place West Lutheran with nine points. Wolvesí sophomore Jessi Struffert won both the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run, setting a new Milaca record in the 800 with a time of 2:25.9. The old mark was 2:27.1 by Melanie Schiebout in 1990. Fiedler of Sauk Centre was second in the 800 with a time of 2:27.6 and Milaca ninth grader Amberly Hirsch was eighth in 2:43.7. Struffert won the 1600 in 5:46.5. Deters of Sauk Centre finished second in 5:55.6. Struffert was also a member of Milaca first-place 4x400-meter relay team which set a meet record with a time of 4:15.8. Other members of the relay included Hirsch, sophomore Chrissy Dee and senior Faith Dalchow. ACGC placed second in 4:23.1. The Wolves also set meet records in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Milacaís 4x100 team of senior DeeAnn Manke, sophomore Casey Carlson, ninth grader Amber Manke and senior Sarah Ruis combined for a time of 52.7. Big Lake was second in 52.9. The Wolvesí unit of Dalchow, DeAnn Manke, Ruis and Carlson set a meet record in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:52.3. Big Lake was second in 1:52.4. Junior Kristine Norberg accounted for Milacaís other first place as she won the pole vault with a height of 8-feet, 6-inches. Milaca eighth grader Hannah Coffee was third at 8-0 and Milaca senior Alex Esselman was eighth at 6-0. The Wolves scored their other points in the following events: ï200-meter dash. Carlson placed second in 27.54 while Ruis finished sixth in 28.2. ï100-meter dash. DeeAnn Manke placed third in 13.7 and ninth grader Janelle Packard was eighth in 14.0. ï400-meter dash. Dalchow finished third in 1:03.7 while Dee was sixth in 1:05.1 and Packard was eighth in 1:05.9. ï300-meter hurdles. Esselman placed third in 52.2. ïTriple jump. Junior Sarah Johnson was fourth with a distance of 30-feet, 5-inches and Carlson placed fifth with a jump of 30-0. ï100-meter high hurdles. Ninth grader Lauren Rohman finished sixth in 18.7 and Esselman was eighth in 18.9. ïHigh jump. Dee tied for fourth place with a jump of 4-8. ï4x800-meter relay. Sophomore Coral Wallace, eighth graders Elyse Dahlstrom and Amanda Roehl and Hirsch placed seventh in 11:42.7 Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City also won the boys division as it piled up 200 points. Annandale placed second at 112 while Foley was third at 99. Rockford placed fourth at 83, Milaca was fifth with 72, Big Lake was sixth at 63, Sauk Centre was seventh with 42 and West Lutheran placed eighth with 20 points. Milaca was led by senior Adam Roehl and junior Craig Kotsmith. Roehl was named the Male Athlete of the Meet, an award which goes to the male participant who scores the most points. Roehl won the triple jump with a jump of 38-feet, 1.5-inches and he ran on Milaca winning 4x400-meter relay team which also included senior Chuck Wojciechowski, sophomore Josh Arey and Kotsmith. That team posted a time of 3:33.7, a new meet record. Roehl also finished second in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.7 and second in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.2. Kurt Bauerly of Milaca earned the top male athlete award at the Big Lake meet in 1999 and the Wolvesí Dave Herbst won the honor in 1998. Kotsmith won the 200-meter dash in 23.0 and he placed first in the 400 dash with a meet record time of 51.2. Arey was fourth in the 400 in 55.4. The Wolves other points were scored in the following events. ï3200-meter run. Junior Anthony Peterson finished fourth in 11:09.2. ï1600-meter run. Peterson placed fifth in 5:04.4. ïPole vault. Ninth grader Josh Strobel notched fifth with a vault of 9-6. ïLong jump. Ninth grader Michael Rygh placed eighth with a jump of 16-1.25. ï4x800-meter relay. Ninth graders Paul Carlson and Paul Bauerly, senior Tony Anderson and junior Ryan Richter placed seventh in 9:35.
