Dayton Becker

Funeral services for Dayton Alvin Becker, 87, were held Monday, April 30, at the First Baptist Church in Milaca with the Rev. Sheldon Carlson officiating.

Burial was at the Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis. Music was provided by Anne Carlson and LeAnn and Lisa Hakes. Pallbearers were Marlyn Wolbert, Dick Becker, Dennis Becker, Daniel Hakes, Donald Hakes and Steve Sibell. Honorary pallbearers were Lester Mueske, Jay Hakes, Ethel Hakes, Gwen Becker, Alfred Becker and Howard Hanley.

Arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.

Mr. Becker died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at Fairview Northland Regional Hospital at Princeton.

He was born June 4, 1913 to William and Mattie Becker in Redfield, S.D. At the age of three he moved with his family to Nickerson, Minn., where he attended District 23 School. He married Doris Wayne June 18, 1930 in Robbinsdale. They had a daughter, Gwen, May 5, 1934. They resided in Minneapolis and in 1942 Dayton started working as a plaster contractor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, on Feb. 20, 1960. He was remarried to Mary Nekola Oct. 8, 1960 and continued working as a plaster tender until his retirement.

In 1975, he moved to Milaca, where his second wife, Mary died on Feb. 20, 1976. Dayton served as custodian of the First Baptist Church for four years and as a driver for Mille Lacs County for seven years.

He is survived by one daughter, Gwen Becker of Minneapolis; close friends, Ethel and Jay Hakes and family; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; one sister and two brothers.
