Girls notch second
boys finish third
at Crosby-Ironton

Milaca will host the 2001 Rum River Conference Track and Field Championships today(Thursday) with the field events starting at 2:45 p.m. and the preliminaries in the running events beginning at 3 p.m.

On Friday, Milaca placed second in the girls division and sixth in the boys division at the Crosby-Ironton Invitational.

Proctor won the girls title with 105.5 points while Milaca finished with 100 points and Staples-Motley was third with 96.5. Holdingford was fourth with 84 and Cromwell was fifth in the 15-team field with 81.

Milaca won three relay events.

Senior DeeAnn Manke, sophomore Casey Carlson, ninth grader Janelle Packard and senior Sarah Ruis won the 4x100-meter relay in 52.11 seconds.

Ninth grader Amberly Hirsch joined DeeAnn Manke, Ruis and Carlson to win the 4x200 relay in 1:50.56.

And, Hirsch, Packard and sophomores Jessi Struffert and Chrissy Dee won the 4x400 relay in 4:17.21.

Struffert also placed first in the 400 dash in 100.01 and second in the 800 run with a time of 2:31.32.

Carlson placed second in the triple jump (32-10.75) and fourth in the 200 dash in 27.7 while ninth grader Lauren Rohman was third in the 100 high hurdles in 17.45 and DeeAnn Manke was third in the 100 in 13.44.

Dee placed third in the high jump (4-9) and fourth in the 400 in 1:05.22.

Junior Kristine Norberg placed fourth in the pole vault (8-0).

Staples-Motley won the boys title with 85 points, followed by Bemidji with 81.5, Proctor with 81, Crosby-Ironton with 76.5, CWSPA with 66 and Milaca with 59. There were 13 teams in the boys meet.

Junior Craig Kotsmith of Milaca won the 200 dash in 23.08 and the 400 in 50.73 while senior Adam Roehl won the 300 hurdles in 42.48 and placed second in the 110 high hurdles in 15.72.

Milacaís 4x400 relay team of Roehl, Kotsmith, senior Chuck Wojciechowski and sophomore Josh Arey placed second in 3:35.1.

Milaca hosts the sub-section meet Thursday, May 24 with field events starting at 2:30 p.m.
