Foundation awards 68 scholarships

Sixty-eight members of the Milaca Secondary School graduating class of 2000 received scholarships from the Milaca Scholarship Foundation during Sundayís graduation ceremonies at the school.

For the third year in a row the Milaca Scholarship Foundation was able to award a scholarship to every Milaca Secondary School senior who applied. Foundation scholarships are awarded annually.

A total of $55,050 in scholarsips was awarded at this yearís graduation ceremonies. The total amount of $58,050 was awarded in 2000.

Scholarships are awarded based on a point system designed by Dollars for Scholars, a national program. Students receive points not only for their grade-point average but also for activities and service in the community.

The following scholarships were awarded this year to Milaca seniors.

ïThomas Anderson, son of Greg and Linda Anderson, received a $750 Alternative Sources of Energy Scholarship. Anderson plans to major in telecommunications and engineering at North West Technical College in Wadena, Minn.

ï Kurt M. Bauerly is the son of Brian and Marge Bauerly. He was awarded a $1,000 Bill Jacobson Memorial Scholarship. Bauerly plans to major in civil engineering at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

ïAndrew J. Bostic, son of Darwin and Susan Bostic, received a $1,000 First National Bank of Milaca Endowment Scholarship. Bostic will major in chemical engineering at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis.

ïDavid E. Burma is the son of Eugene and Jeanne Burma. David received a $750 Medtronic Endowment Scholarship . Burma plans to major in non-destructive testing at Ridgewater College in Hutchinson, Minn.

ïAaron L. Carlson, son of Alan and Jane Carlson, received a $1,000 Milaca American Legion Scholarship. Carlsonís plan is to major in agriculture at North Dakota State University in Fargo.

ïElizabeth A. Chapp is the daughter of Daniel and Rebecca Chapp. She was awarded a $1,000 Virgil Adkins Memorial Scholarship. Her major will be in education at Bethel College in St. Paul.

ï Kelli Jean Clermont, daughter of Kari Clermont, received a $750 Milaca American Legion Scholarship. Her major will be in psychology at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minn.

ïMarcus L. Dee, son of Arlo and Bev Dee, received a $500 G.T.E. Scholarship. Dee will be majoring in T.V. broadcasting at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud.

ïMichael A. Dehn is the son of James and Cory Dehn. He received a $1,000 Milaca Scholarship Foundation (M.S.F.) Ultra Golf Classic Scholarship. Dehn will choose a major in ministry, business or mass communications at St. Cloud State University.

ïMindy Rae Droogsma, daughter of Paul Droogsma, was awarded a $750 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. She will major in nursing at Winona State University, Winona, Minn.

ïDerek J. Fradette, son of Allen and Cathy Fradette, was awarded a $750 Carl E. Johnson Memorial Endowment Scholarship. Fradette plans to major in carpentry at St. Cloud Technical College in St. Cloud, Minn.

ïZachary C. Gahm, son of Charles and Laurie Gahm, received a $750 Harvey Boyum Memorial Scholarship. Gahm will use his scholarship toward a major in elementary education and coaching. He plans to attend Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minn.

ïAngela R. Gassett is the daugher of Jim and Sheila Geist. Angela received a $1,000 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Gassett plans to major in education or psychology at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.

ïEric C. Gilbert is the son of Dale and Sharon Gilbert. He received a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Gilbert plans to attend Rasmussen Business College in Minnetonka, Minn to pursue a major in court reporting.

ïTiffanie M. Gothman, is the daughter of Venus Gothman. Tiffanie was awarded a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Gothman will major in business at the Mayville State University in Mayville, ND.

ïCrystal C. Hackett is the daughter of Vicki Hackett. Crystal received a $1,000 John A. and Marie MacMillan Memorial Scholarship. Hackett plans to attend the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. to pursue a major in psychology.

ïCarissa J. Hall is the daughter of Richard and Melodee Hall. She received a $800 Virgil Adkins Memorial Scholarship. Hall will major in elementary education at Northwestern in Orange City, Ia.

ïSeth G. Hasz, son of Merle and Jackie Hasz, was awarded a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Hasz plans to major in business management or information networking management at the University of Minnesota in Crookston, Minn.

ïDavid P .Herbst is the son of Mary Jo Swanson. David received a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Herbst plans to major in secondary education at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minn.

ïCasey P. Hoehn, son of Paul and Ann Hoehn, received a $1,000 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Hoehn will attend Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

ïLisa E. Homstad is the daughter of Ronald and Bonnie Homstad. She received a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Homstad will major in child development at Anoka-Hennepin Technical College in Anoka, Minn.

ïJill S. Hubers, daughter of Stephen and Anita Hubers, was awarded a $1,000 Milaca American Legion Scholarship. Hubers plans to major in international business management and French at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

ïSara B. Jacobsen is the daughter of Bruce and Linda Jacobsen. She received a $1,000 Alternative Sources of Energy Scholarship. She plans to major in biology and biochemistry at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn.

ïJacob B. Johnson, the son of Randy and Jean Johnson, was awarded a $1,000 First National Bank of Milaca Endowment Scholarship. He will major in computer science at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minn.

ïTimothy R. Johnson is the son of Norris and Trudy Johnson. He received a $1,000 M.S.F. Ultra Golf Classic Scholarship. Johnson will major in music at Northwestern College in St. Paul.

ïNichole E. Jones, daughter of Paris and Lora-Jean Jones received a $1,000 Virgil Adkins Memorial Scholarship. Nichole will major in math education at Northwestern College in St. Paul.

ïJessica D. Kiel, the daughter of Richard C. and Carol Kiel, received a $1,000 M.S.F. Ultra Golf Classic Scholarship. Kiel will attend the University of Minnesota at Morris, Minn.

ïKelly J .Kotsmith, daughter of Chris and Barb Kotsmith, was awarded a $750 Bradford H. Bonkowske Memorial Scholarship. Kotsmith will be majoring in elementary and special education at Winona State University in Winona, Minn.

ïAlesha A. Kramer is the daughter of Michael and Lois Kramer. She received a $1,000 M.S.F. Ultra Golf Classic Scholarship. Kramer will attend the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities while pursuing a major in dental hygiene.

ïKjerstin A. Lang is the daughter of Linda Lang. Kjerstin received a $1,000 M.S.F. Ultra Golf Classic Scholarship. Lang will major in journalism at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis.

ïAngela M. Larsen, daughter of Brigitte Larsen, was awarded a $750 Milaca School District Administratorís Scholarship. Larsen plans to attend St. Cloud State University or University of Minnesota, Duluth to major in elementary education.

ïKristi L. Lupke,daughter of Troy and Shirley Lupke received a $1,000 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Lupke will major in architecture at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.

ïSara M. Maurer is the daughter of Mike Mauer and Vicki Benson. Sara received a $750 Gary St. John Memorial Scholarship. Maurer plans to major in accounting at St. Cloud Technical College.

ïJodi L. Miller, the daughter of Alan and Sandy Miller, was awarded a $1,000 Tuovi and Viola Salo Memorial Endowment Scholarship. Miller will major in music education at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.

ïDaniel J. Mouw, son of Ivan and Darlene Mouw received a $1,000 Alternative Sources of Energy Scholarship. He plans to pursue a major in electrical engineering at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.

ïLindsy E. Moyer is the daughter of Greg and Dawn Moyer. She received a $1,000 M.S.F. Ultra Golf Classic Scholarship. Moyer plans to major in family and social sciences at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.

ïJoshua M. Nelson, son of Marty and Sharon Nelson, received a $1,000 Alternative Sources of Energy Scholarship. Nelson will pursue a major in physics at Johnís University in Collegeville, Minn.

ïLindsey J. Northway, daughter of Tim and Sandy Northway, was awarded a $750 Milaca American Legion Schoarship. Northway will attend Rasmussen College in St. Cloud, Minn to pursue a major as a health information tehnician.

ï Jennifer M. Ohman is the daughter of Joni Benedict. Jennifer was awarded a $750 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Ohman plans to major in zoology at St. Cloud State University.

ïLaura L. Olson, daughter of Julie Olson, received a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Laura plans to major in nursing and will pursue a career as an OB/GYN Nurse. She will pursue her degree at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, Minn.

ïSean R Palmer, son of Diane Erickson and Jack Palmer, was awarded a $750 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Sean plans to major in history and social science at St. Cloud State University.

ïJennifer A. Palmquist, daughter of Richard and Kaye Palmquist, received a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Palmquist will major in music and psychology at Northwestern College in Orange City, Ia.

ïSarah A. Paulson is the daugher of Janet Paulson. Sarah was awarded a $1,000 Paul A. Olson Memorial Endowment Scholarship. She will pursue a major in sonography at the College of St. Catherine.

ïShannon M. Peetz, daughter of Dave and Cathy Peetz received a $1,000 Dr. Paul J. Keith Memorial Endowment Scholarship. She plans to pursue a major in medicine and biology at St. Maryís University in Winona, Minn.

ïKyle D. Peterson, son of Abdon Jr. and Susan Peterson. He received a $1,000 Virgil Adkins Memorial Scholarship. His chosen major is in business and economics. He will attend the University of Minnesota in Duluth.

ïJennifer A. Roth is the daughter of Timothy and Catrina Roth. She received a $1,000 M.S.F. Ultra Golf Classic Scholarship and will be majoring in psychology at Crown College, in St. Bonifacius, Minn.

ïMary E. Sams, daughter of Rick and Mary Bemis was awarded a $1,000 Milaca American Legion Scholarship. She will major in business management at Rasmussen Business College in St. Cloud.

ïBrian C. Schiebout is the son of Chris and Henrietta Schiebout. He received a $750 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. He will pursue education in pre-seminary, engineering and political science at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Ia.

ïNancy R. Schmidtbauer is the daughter of Alan and Julie Schmidtbauer. She received a $500 Hillman American Legion Scholarship and plans to major in child care development education at St. Cloud Technical College.

ïAndrea R. Schmitz, dauther of David and Karen McFadzen, was awarded a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Andrea plans to major in real estate and property management at Inver Hills Community College in Inver Grove Heights, Minn.

ïAndrea L. Schwinefus is the daughter of Doug and Barbara Fairchild. She received a $500 Ken Trimble Memorial Endowment Scholarship. Her major will be in business computer programming at Mayville State University in Mayville, ND.

ïApril L. Schwinefus is the daughter of Doug and Barbara Fairchild. She was awarded a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship and plans to major in business at a technical college.

ïKatie S. Sjolin is the daughter of Ernest and Susan Sjolin. She received a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Her chosen major is architectural construction design. She will pursue her education at St. Cloud Technical College.

ïKyle C. Sonnek, son of Norbert Jr. and Judith Sonnek, was awarded a $1,000 Mille Lacs Soil Service Scholarship. He plans to major in agribusiness and accounting at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul.

ïTami C. Sonnek is the daughter of Michael and Edith Sonnek. She was awarded a $1,000 Alternative Sources of Energy Scholarship and plans to pursue an engineering major at the University of Wisconsin in Superior, Wis.

ïSean S. Strandlund, son of Sheryl Strandlund, was awarded a $750 Alternative Sources of Energy Scholarship. He plans to major in geology at the University of Minnesota in Duluth.

ïNichole J Swanson is the daughter of Robert and Lynette Swanson. She received a $1,000 Alternative Sources of Energy Scholarship and plans to pursue her major in math education at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minn.

ïMichelle M. Swenson is the daughter of David and Judith Swenson. Michelle received a $1,000 Greater Milaca Chamber of Commerce Endowment Scholarship. She will major in business and graphic design at Minnesota State University, in Mankato.

ïSara A. Taft, the daughter of Tom and Dee Shea, received a $1,000 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Sara plans to pursue a major in forensics and criminology at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis.

ïKevin J. Tellinghuisen is the son of David and Peg Tellinghuisen. He was awarded a $500 Bremer Scholarship and plans to major in business administration at the University of Minnesota in Duluth.

ïMichael D. Tellinghuisen is the son of Roger and Pat Tellinghuisen. Michael received a $750 Alvin G. Lamprecht Memorial Endowment Scholarship. He plans to attend Cambridge Community College in his continued study of natural resources.

ïSarah J. Tellinghuisen, daughter of David and Peg Tellinghuisen, received a $l,000 John A. and Marie MacMillan Memorial Scholarship. She plans to major in physical therapy at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn.

ï Tessa M. Thompson is the daughter of John and Catherine Thompson. She received a $1,000.M.S.F. Ultra Golf Classic Scholarship. She will major in communications at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.

ïDerek J. Totzke is the son of Scott and Beth Totzke. He was awarded a $500 M.S.F. Endowment Fund Scholarship. Derek will major in computer drafting and design at St. Cloud Technical College.

ïGregory C. Vedders, son of Phil and Debbie Vedders, received a $750 Alternative Sources of Energy Scholarship. Gregory plans to pursue a major in electrical engineering at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.

ïEllen A. Wildman is the daughter of Joe and Sue Wildman. Ellen received a $1 ,000 Milaca Intermediate and High School Staff Scholarship. She plans to major in criminal justice at Minnesota State University, Mankato, Minn.

ïJennifer L. Wunderlich, daughter of Steve and Judy Wunderlich, received a $750 Douglas Henschel Memorial Scholarship. She will major in psychology at St. Cloud State University.

ïMatthew R. Youngberg, son of John and Jackie Youngberg, was awarded a $1,000 Alternative Sources of Energy Scholarship. He plans to major in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Minnesota in Duluth.
